Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy Football Matchup Breakdown For Week 6
John Laghezza breaks down the Week 6 matchup between the Buccaneers and Steelers for fantasy football.
The beauty of this league lies in its unpredictability. Pittsburgh and Tampa are both coming off impressive wins thanks to big-time performances from quarterbacks born in different centuries, separated by 18 years, 10 months, and 27 days. How cool is that?

Pittsburgh Steelers Fantasy Preview For Week 6
Had you told me this summer all those late-round Aaron Rodgers best ball picks would be keeping my teams afloat rather than sinking the fleet, I’m not sure I’d believe you. Nevertheless, it’s precisely the case these past few weeks, as the old man’s working on three straight +20-point contests, featuring 3 TD passes in each. Pittsburgh already ranked near the top of the board in dropbacks/game (40.4), but now efficiency’s poking through. The recent uptick’s made Rodgers the QB5 since Week 3, with a beatable Tampa secondary on deck. Let the good times roll.
Speaking of good times rolling, no one better exemplifies a sudden rocket ride to the moon than Jaylen Warren. Finally awarded a full-time role due to Rico Dowdle’s toe injury, Warren’s gone fully nuclear. His 24.3 fantasy points/game ranks as the RB4 since Week 3, despite the 8th-most touches and 0 red zone TDs. For reference, Warren’s the only RB in the top-9 during that same timeframe without three scores inside the 20. Three! Rico Dowdle should return to face the Bucs, but I’m afraid this toothpaste’s already out of the tube.
Losing Michael Pittman Jr. to IR (foot) shook the Steelers’ target tree, leading to a nice, yet unsurprising utilization bump for Pat Freiermuth (7 Targets; 5-44-2). The wide receiver usage many thought would go to Roman Wilson did not. Even though Wilson left early (finger) and is already listed as out Week 6, it was rookie Germie Bernard soaking up all the 12-personnel work plus the majority of targets. Heralded by his veteran QB for his intensely high football IQ, Bernard’s a must-add WR with actual rest-of-season ceiling — not something oft acquired mid-stream.
- Start: Aaron Rodgers (QB19), Jaylen Warren (RB12), DK Metcalf (WR21), Pat Freiermuth (TE12)
- Sit: Rico Dowdle (RB40)
- Sleeper: Germie Bernard (WR38)

Go on, admit it. You know you’ve thought about it. What if … Jalon Daniels … is good? Maybe I’m open to the brighter side of life since I avoided that Survivor landmine Thursday Night. Daniels definitely acquitted himself well in a victory over Dallas (0.13 EPA/dropback, 76.0% completion, 110.3 passer rating, 7.6 yards/attempt, 0 INT) — though I’d pump the brakes on an incoming breakout. Tampa did a great job of using shotgun to allow more processing time, while Daniels took notable strides in turning sacks into scrambles. Plus, this Cowboys’ defense hasn’t stopped anyone. Startable in Superflex leagues only, Daniels should at the very least keep our Buccaneers competitively relevant.
Wild ride for Bucky Irving, who left some fantasy egg on my face for trying to throw shovelfuls of dirt onto his 2026 campaign. Reduced work, a backup QB, plus the return of Sean Tucker wasn’t enough to stop Bucky from his best output of the season (21-165-1; 2-10-1). This same fast-moving, shotgun-based, get-it-out-quick style also saw Kenneth Gainwell earn four targets, which could make him a desperation play with bye weeks looming, though also serve to cap other pass catchers.
Speaking of which, Emeka Egbuka’s (6-38-0; 1-14-1) day in Jerry’s World marked the first Tampa wideout to crack the weekly top-20 leaderboard. Again, the true ceiling’s capped a bit, but at 94% route participation and +31% target/route, the second-year standout’s still startable. Hey, there’s even a non-zero chance Daniels continues progressing; it’s just that Pittsburgh’s a much tougher task, having allowed the second-fewest fantasy points/game to QBs (11.1).
- Start: Bucky Irving (RB14), Emeka Egbuka (WR31)
- Sit: Kenneth Gainwell (RB38), Cade Otton (TE25)
- Sleeper: Chris Godwin (WR47)
